PO-RALG through the D-by-D policy has the responsibility of coordinating and monitoring closely all services provided at Regional and LGAs. Given these responsibilities, PO-RALG has repeatedly been reforming and improving its management systems to ensure effective coordination and monitoring of their functions.
In order for PO-RALG to fulfill its mandate, the establishment of mechanisms for facilitating and bringing convergence of efforts provided by various health implementing partner organizations working in LGAs is very pertinent.
The information with regards to the profile and scope of work of the available health implementing partners and their capacities in supporting LGAs is important in order to ensure effective coordination, monitoring and evaluation of partners’ roles in strengthening Tanzania health care delivery system.
The need to establish a specific health reference information centre which can be used for sharing innovations, good/best practices and or change package implemented by partner organizations in LGAs is therefore of paramount importance. The best practices could be harmonized and subsequently replicated or roll out in other LGAs after proper scrutiny through impact evaluation studies and expertise opinion.
Based on these observations, in the year 2014 PO-RALG and MoHCDGEC in collaboration with Health Promotion and System Strengthening (HPSS) project funded by Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) established the PO-RALG Health Resource center to support health reform activities carried out in Regions and LGAs by different actors. The center therefore responds to this need as a supportive measure for improved coordination of projects or programs implemented by partner organizations in LGAs. Also it is envisaged that this centre shall be able to avail information with regards to good/best practices implemented by partner organizations in LGAs, working tools and or literature for reference by health care workers, managers and implementing partners in Health System Strengthening.
