Health Promotion and System Strengthening (HPSS) Tuimarishe Afya project which is funded by Swiss government under Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) with other stakeholders in health sector in the country, participated in a two-day health summit under them: Tanzania Health Sector Industrialization – Progress review and unlocking persistent challenges in Dar es Salaam.
The Tanzania Health Summit (THS) 2018 is the fifth annual health summit forming the largest platform in the country, which attract more than 1000 participants. The conference participants bring experience from a wide variety of disciplines, and include health professionals (doctors, nurses, pharmacist and other allied health science cadres). Others include health policy makers, health researchers, public health professionals, health insurers, health equipment’s and medicine suppliers, and private health investors and entrepreneurs. The goal of the summit was to exchange ideas and best practices across disciplines in order to improve public health and healthcare delivery in the country.
The tremendous load of infectious and non-communicable diseases in the country presents major challenges to the healthcare industry and requires transformation of the traditional healthcare delivery models and health systems. To achieve quality healthcare for all, the 5th Tanzania Health Summit calls for investment in science research, problem solving innovations and better supportive health policies. The three pillars are key to facilitate the necessary changes that will have an impact on the general population, patients, employers, and healthcare payers and providers.
In order for Tanzania to reach the goals of industrialization and middle economy, provision of better health to all people in the country; regardless of their financial status, is a prerequisite as most of Tanzanians are in the informal sectors.
During the summit, HPSS Tuimarishe Afya project in collaboration with PO-RALG and Ministry of Health showed case Community Health Fund (CHF) Iliyoboreshwa and JAZIA prime vendor system technologies which are very effective in the health sector. (End)
